The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has officially confirmed its participation in the ongoing dialogue with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of the new host city election process for the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This marks a strategic milestone not only for Qatar but for the entire Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region — signaling a clear intent to elevate the global role of Arab nations in the Olympic movement.

🔗 Sport as a Pillar of National Vision

Qatar’s move is not just about hosting an international mega-event; it’s a reflection of the country’s long-term national strategy. The bid aligns closely with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, where sport plays a vital role in social, economic, and human development.

Key principles behind Qatar’s bid include:

🌍 Sport for Peace: Emphasizing sport as a tool for unity, cross-cultural understanding, and global stability.

👥 Youth Empowerment: Unlocking the potential of young people through engagement and inspiration.

♻️ Sustainability and Legacy: Building long-term social, economic, and environmental impact beyond the event.

🏗️ Ready to Deliver

His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of QOC and Chair of the Bid Committee, confirmed that Qatar has already completed 95% of the required infrastructure. The remaining elements are part of a comprehensive national readiness plan to ensure 100% completion — on time and to international standards.

The goal is not merely to host a successful Games, but to offer a new global model — inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in authentic human values.

🏆 A Track Record of Hosting Excellence

Qatar has become a trusted host for global sporting events. Over the last two decades, the nation has successfully delivered 18 World Championships, including:

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ (widely seen as the best edition ever)

2015 IHF Men’s Handball World Championship

2019 World Athletics Championships

2024 World Aquatics Championships

2025 World Table Tennis Championships

Upcoming events include the ISSF World Shooting Championships (2026), FIBA Basketball World Cup (2027), and the 2030 Asian Games.

This proven experience positions Qatar as a highly capable and visionary host nation.

🌍 A Historic Opportunity for the Arab World

If successful, Qatar would become the first country in the MENA region to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games — a moment of pride for the Arab world and a global opportunity for inclusion and representation.

The proposed bid reflects a broader vision:

> "To present a distinctive Arab model – rooted in diversity, openness, and a commitment to peace. A model that inspires youth and strengthens global solidarity."

🤝 A Message to the World

Qatar’s bid is not just about sport. It’s about vision. It’s about responsibility. And it’s about showing the world that the values of the Olympic movement — peace, unity, resilience, and excellence — can thrive in new regions when backed by long-term planning, infrastructure, and purpose.

As the dialogue with the IOC continues, Qatar is making it clear: the country is ready, willing, and able to lead.
